First of all, welcome aboard, marksman! As with everything else, the best thing you can do is read, read, and then read some more. Start with the FAQs and then move on to whatever sparks your interest in the threads - you'll be amazed at just how much you can teach yourself! Here's a great one on app recommendations:

Forget the top 5, list ALL of your apps

As to synching, you just attach your PC and the Droid with the USB cable provided. Once connected, you pull down the notification bar on the top of the Droid where it says USB connected and choose 'mount'. It's just like searching any external device. You can cut and paste your music while connected that way.

If you want to add anything (sounds, wav files, songs, whatever) it's very simple. You can add whatever you want to the stock sounds. Once you've mounted the Droid, create a directory called "media" directly on the SD card. Then in the media directory create a subdirectory called "audio". Then in the audio directory create three subdirectories called "notifications", "ringtones", and "alarms". Then just drop your files into the appropriate folder, and assign ringtones to contacts, email, and the alarm clock.

For notifications: media/audio/notifications
For ringtones: media/audio/ringtones
For alarms: media/audio/alarms

That's worked for me and after few months I've had no issues at all. Each assigned ringtone works each time and shows up on the correct list of choices. It's that easy! You should be all set!

Enjoy your new toy!
