Weeks ago I dropped my phone in water. (Motorola 4 android) I immediately put it rice for several days and luckily it charged and booted up like normal. For about a week I thought I had escaped from instant phone death. However, one morning it wouldn't charge using the usb cord and wall socket so I connected it to our PC and saw that the green light at the top came on but the phone never charged.
I desperately want to find a way to retrieve some pics that are near and dear to me so I went to every Verizon store (that's my carrier)in the surrounding 3 towns to find someone that could help. ( they are not on a memory card) No luck. everyone just keeps saying you can't remove a Droid 4 battery and the pics are lost. One of the salespeople even took it out after saying it couldn't be done and then said sorry and sent me on my way. Though I am not a tech or computer person at all I just keep thinking if I could find someone who knows the ins and outs of the phone rather than sales people who don't, then maybe someone could give me an answer/solution. Luckily, when I called Verizon the young lady on the other end was kind enough to direct me here.
    Here are my questions:
-did the water actually damage the component that holds my pic data?
-can a new battery be installed and allow me to retrieve the pics? (I have a 2nd spare Motorola 4 android phone with battery, but don't have a clue as to how to reinstall)
-if not, I have heard of a factory cable for the phone. Would it help in my attempt to retrieve the pics?
    Thanks.

    maybe, unknown
yes, Motorola Droid 4 Teardown including battery removal
    Motorola Droid 4 Repair Guide-RepairsUniverse.com
Using the factory cable, for other than flashing, is not recommended, but may work and it's only $10 plus shipping here. TBH Factory Adaptor

    edit:
if you do not have these tools for take apart
    Tools Required:

I would just buy the TBH Factory Adaptor.

    One step closer (i hope)

I can't believe it but my phone is now in fastboot mode. Had some mishaps in locating a T5 screwdriver but once it arrived I used it and the TBH factory cable you mentioned and my bricked phone is now showing signs of life.
BUT, I don't know what to do next. I have no phone repair/programming skills or fastboot knowledge. I'm just a mom who wants to get her pics back. Now that I have power to my phone via the factory cable, what do I do to retrieve my pics?
My computer recognizes the phone and is asking me something about installing fastboot CDMA. Do I want to do this? Will it take me through the next phase?
Please, oh, please help me with the next steps.

Ok, I looked over your list and am in freak out mode because it seems daunting to someone of my limited knowledge of anything technical. so, I am going to do my best to ask you the least amount of questions to resolve this.

first: I do not see the exact wording you used in the post on the list so I want to be sure I'm selecting the right option before I follow the wrong directions...

I see on your list something titled, "how to use RSD lite to flash a .xml stock ROM". is this what you are directing me to?

If so, it takes me down the page to "How to use RSD Lite" section.
When it says download RSD lite 5.7, I am to download this file to the computer that my phone is connected to, correct?

So, the screen labled 'found new hardware' that popped up on the computer that is prompting me to use a wizard to install something automatically needs to be cancelled and then I am to go to the internet and go to your link for RSD??
Thanks and I appreciate your knowledge and patience.

When I go to open the RSD lite file from your link, i get a message asking if i want to save it or find a program online to open it. ??

Also, it has a file labeled usbflag_Android_13. Do i attempt to open this as well?

If I am reading the section in your list labeled 'xml files' correctly, there ar several places to get the CDMA_maserati xml. after randomly trying several i continue to have a long period of waiting while the computer says 'connecting'. am I doing something incorrect or is this to be expected?

the rsd lite is in a compressed file, use 7zip or winrar to uncompress.
