I recently released an app on the marketplace and would like some user input. The app is a checkbook register that allows the user to enter transactions and organize them by type (such as gas, groceries, etc).

What I need is some common things that people spend their money on to add to that list of categories. Also, if you could provide ways in which you commonly receive money (such as paychecks, etc) that'd be helpful as well.

If you're curious about the app, its called "Checkbook". There are two versions, the basic (free) one and the one I am requesting help with, which is $0.99.

Thanks in advance for the help.

First post, and only requesting help with the paid version of your app. Nice.

If the feature existed in both, it'd help with both. I don't appreciate your condescending tone.

Please don't let 2 rude ppl in this big friendly forum discourage you. i'd help you but i use the old fashion checkbook ;)

Actually, even though he did say that he specifically needs help with the paid version, what he really said was that he needed input on, and I quote, "What I need is some common things that people spend their money on to add to that list of categories. Also, if you could provide ways in which you commonly receive money (such as paychecks, etc) that'd be helpful as well."

That being said, OP, what categories do you already have? Be more than happy to provide additional fodder, so long as I know I'm not providing what's already there. ;)

I'd think you could probably peek at any budgeting program out there to get some category ideas.

I rarely write checks, but off the top of my head, monthly bills here include:

    Mortgage
    Car insurance
    Homeowner's Insurance (Renter's for some)
    Cable/Internet
    Cell phone
    Gas
    Groceries
    Entertainment
    Gifts
    Grooming expenses (haircut, etc.)
    Gifts
    Travel
    Car maintenance
    Commuting
    EZPass (could be under commuting)
    Heat/Electricity
Wardrobe ( I just budget a figure per month although it isn't spent every month)

Dining Out - would be another category to track
Business Expense - vs. personal expense - like entertaining a client, sales prospect
Software - like the apps we download, or PC purchases
