Have Droid X. Had Android 2.2 installed and rooted. No custom ROMS just for wireless tether and to disable bloatware. Verizon kept trying to update to 2.2.1 OTA and I finally got tired of my phone rebooting. I renamed the bloatware from *.bak back to *.apk and the 2.2.1 OTA update was successful. May have even had to unroot via RootMyX2, but cannot be certain. I really want my root access back, if just for the wireless tether alone. Is there anyone out there who can help? I do still have my superuser icon and superuser permissions apk but the phone says it is not running. Do I need to remove/rename/or whatever the superuser before I can "re-root"? And if so/not, how or what do I need to install/download to regain my root access. I am no newbie, however I am not the super "hacker" either, so instructions in simple terms and at least a point in the correct direction (not sure on rules for direct links) for any files needed would be great. Thanks guys in advance

The catch here is that one click root methods tend to fail when superuser is in the system/apps folder. However you can't remove that app unless you're rooted. If you follow the multiple phones link in my signature the terminal emulator method should get you rooted just fine.

z4root or the manual root method in my signature should set you right up.

Okay, so I have a Droidx, it was rooted with version 2.2, which I used mostly for wifi/teathering. then I hit the update to 2.3.340...heres my position. I have tried the manual root with terminal emulator, Round step 9 it stops working and says file is read only?... So I backed out, and tried to remove the superuser and busy box with the terminal emulator, and I did not have permission/acess, so, I went to Z4root, and that supposedly worked! It said I was rootef. I went to busy box, and it checked and said I was rooted , however when I tried to run/ install busy box it gave me errors. And said to run logcat and send file to the creator... I currently do not have internet at my house hence the wifi & was not able to download the droid co downloader files from ajax (rescue root files)on my phone and transfer to my pc via usb to attempt root. Previously I manual rooted with Do.root with my pc, with android sdk. Can I use that again? Are there any suggestions? What do I need to do to make busybox work (i deleted it and reinstalked from market already). My only option that I havent tried that im not sure wi work is to get internet acess with pc and try that. Help!

hey I feel like I am in the same situation as the OP, I unrooted then updated. Now I want to reroot but I just can not get it done, Z4 does not work. I still have the superuser permission app and suspect it is causing z4 to fail. Terminal emulator tells me "permission denied" after I type in su when trying to remove anything. I do not want to SBF can someone please help.

superoneclick might do it, probably won't. ADB is probably it for you if the manual method outlined in my signature won't work.

How did you unroot and leave the su app?
