    okay i am really confused i see a whole bunch of unrooting threads. i see some commands which personally scares me, i tried searching for some and i dont feel them applicable to my situation. im using the DROID X 2.2. im trying to wipe everything since i feel that even though i uninstalled the busy box, and superuser i feel that it wont uninstall the ps3 jail break thing i tried to install but did not work. i also tried looking on youtube but i only find a couple and they are old, and experience with youtube in the past makes me take caution. so if someone can post a direct link to topic, program or video it would greatly be appreciated.

    thanks in advance for all that took there time to look and possibly post in this topic.

    P.S. i want to deroot, because all attempts to do anything with it have been unsuccessful. such as wifi tethering, ps jailbreak, backups with rom manager. i just got tired and want to "do over" or just leave my phone alone and be on the safe side.

    Try the z4root app from the market. It has an un-root option.

    So are things working now? If not, try following the link in my sig for a manual root.

    download the terminal emulator and type su before hitting enter. On the X you'll probably need to hit the menu key to toggle the keyboard.

    By typing su you're asking to give the terminal superuser permissions. If you get a popup asking for permissions you'll want to grant it. The prompt should turn from a $ to a #. If you don't get asked then either you don't have root or you somehow managed to turn off permissions in the SuperUser Permissions app. Get in there and delete everything and try again.

    Oh, and once you have the # prompt you can just back out of the terminal without any issues, or you can type exit and hit enter a couple times.

    That sounds more like an issue with ROM Manager than with the root. Did you flash Clockwork? Also, if you're interested in installing ROMs you'll need bootstrap.

    The terminal emulator in the market; there are at least two choices, you'll want the Android Terminal Emulator, IIRC.

    Other than that you're all set. :)

    Open it, toggle the soft keyboard from the menu softkey, then type su and hit enter, see what happens.

    IIRC = If I Remember Correctly. :)
