I'm guessing/hoping there's an easy and foolproof way to do this: when traveling abroad, how do I shut off all data uploads/downloads on the DX? The only way I know is to put the phone in Airplane mode, but that closes the phone connection too, which is undesirable.

Any suggestions, experts?

Depending on what country you are (abroad) in you will not have service so the data will not be an issue.

Thanks for the replies, all. My phone's not rooted, and I'm pretty sure the country I'm going to has compatible data and voice connections, since I got VZ to enable my voice connection, and they offered to sign me up for a pretty hefty international data plan.

Jstafford1's reply gave me a clue: in Settings -> Data Manager -> Data Delivery, there are 3 options: Background Data, Data Roaming and Data enabled. If I turn all 3 off, it visually looks to be working, since my 3G icon disappears, and I cannot reach any pages on my browser. I cannot confirm all applications though.

Anyone see any issues with this approach? TIA for all the help.

Verizon is a CDMA network, unless you have a "global" phone which also supports GSM...you wont get service anyways.
