I am running the HexFusion blue them and I want to change the text and color of the app drawer handle. I want it to have the same font and background. I want to change it to green and add "Irish" in front of the exsisting Droid logo. Anyone interested in helping me out? Thanks!

I hope you don't mind me piggybacking my question on yours.... I also want to change the handle. I'm running DroidMod 1.0 with no themes or anything, and I don't really want to do a theme or a home app replacement. Is there a way to do this?

Copy the launcher.apk from system/app to your SD card. Put it on your PC.

Extract the file using 7zip. Modify whatever PNG files you want and keep the names the same.

Then OPEN the launcher.apk with 7zip. Drop the modified PNG files into the correct folders in the archive. It will replace the files with the same name.

Then put the modified file back on your sd card.

Use root explorer to paste the new launcher.apk back into system/app (after mounting as R/W). It will overwrite the original.

Then change that file's permission to look like this where X is a checkmark and O is no checkmark.

    XXO
    XOO
    XOO

Then mount back as RO, then reboot.

Search the threads I have started for my modified launcher with some more detailed instructions.

Reply back here if you have questions. I do this a lot and I always use root explorer, rather than adb.

Thanks for this suggestion. I'm going to mess around with the launcher right now.

I believe you need Root Explorer to manage permissions...

ok I'm in Root Explorer and I copied the file to system/app but I can't figure out how to set permissions...

I only know how to do things like chmod in a unix shell! heh.

If you're familar with unix and chmod then Android Terminal Emulator would have worked for you too, but I see you found the longpress already. Root Explorer is a great time saver.

As stated, long press will give you the option to change permissions.

Be aware that widgets will need to be reset after the reboot.

IT WORKED! Woohoo! I have custom handle with all three states, custom delete, and I changed the folder icon (open and closed)

I'm attaching screenshots of the handle and the handle when it's activated, and my "glared orb" styled purple folder icons :)

    Thank you guys soooooo much!!

    Question:
There are three states for the handle:

normal - this is what it looks like just sitting there
pressed - this is what it looks like when you grab it to move it, and while it's moving
selected - what is this? Nothing I do makes this "selected" without being "pressed"

Pressed is when you are actually pressing the handle and holding it in which is why if you manually drag the app drawer open it will stay in this state.

Selected is just clicking the handle. So if you flick the handle open you will see it change back to the normal state after you let go during the flick.

I'm pretty sure I got this correct.

How do you "select" the handle without pressing it? Flicking and dragging both activate "pressed"... I never see "selected"

Need a little help. so i pulled the luancher.apk, just added some words to the drawer on the .png file and saved and put it back into the system/app folder. rebooted and got stuck in a boot loop. any ideas?

Update: so after looking at "My Custom "Droid" Launcher that Changes Colors " i learned how to properly set permissions. gonna give that a try

Yes. Permission are likely the culprit.

May I ask what exactly everyone is using to change the text or picture. Thanks.
