I made a nandroid backup of the stock phone before I rooted it. Do I need to make another backup before I start flashing kernals? If so, will it replace the stock backup or can I give it a different name and save it?

Always always always make a backup before changing anything on the phone just in case something goes wrong you can always backtrack to where you are now. Yes just name it something else and make sure to delete old ones you're sure you don't need to free up space because they're usually big files. I however always keep two old ones just in case.

Thanks. I now have a backup of my stock phone and of the phone with the 2.2 rom I'm running. I was able to put an overclocked kernal on this morning.
