Does a nandroid backup backup your contacts? Also wondering how to restore a nandroid backup?
When you do a nandroid backup, it makes a complete backup of your current image. So you basically lose nothing if you do a restore.
To do a restore, you have to go to the sprecovery menu and choose backup/restore. Simple restore restores the ROM with the newest date. If you go to Advanced restore, you can choose which ROM you want to restore.
To get to the sprecovery menu, with the phone off, hold X on the physical keyboard and the power button until the menu comes up. If you get a ! in a triangle, your phone is not rooted and/or you dont have nandroid installed.
Or from the terminal, type 'su' then enter, then 'reboot recovery' then enter, and it will automatically reboot into the sprecovery menu.
If you have a backup and want to restore, you will want to do 'wipe data/factory reset' then 'wipe cache partition' from the nandroid menu. This wipes the OS partition, not the SDcard. Then go to the backup/restore and do your restore. But, do not WIPE the phone unless you are SURE you have a backup.
You do not need to wipe the phone before you restore.
ok thank you
Do the Nandroid backups retain system settings as well? I backed up Apps with Astro, or are they backed up with the Nandroid backup too?
Just did a Simple Nandroid backup then restored to an original backup and then restored back to the current backup. Lost all basic settings like homescreen and widget/icon layout.
Thoughts? Help? Screwed now, but for future recoveries please.

This is Matth3w's signature. Read through those and You'll know how to get it, how to install it, why it is important, etc. It involves rooting your phone and having a way to install different ROMs as well as getting your phone back to stock.
