Soo the other day I went ahead and rooted my droid and installed BB 7.4 and got SetCPU and had it set to 800mhz. Pretty happy with the results. Tonight I decided to up it to 950mhz just to see if there is a difference...and to me there is. The phone transitiions between home screens faster. But the biggest difference is the heat! According to temp monitor, as I type this it is reporting 107F. That's over 15 degrees warmer than the max temp I recorded while running at 800mhz. For me, that's enough to go back to 800mhz. Just thought id share this with you all.

im at 1GHz right now and my phone is at 77 degrees, it frequently operates at around 86 degrees, but it can get hot, my phone's gotten into the 110+ range before but the latest setcpu has a failsafe mode that works well, it varies based on device, 3g connection and amount of multi tasking, honestly if your reasonable with it its not all that dangerous

ahhh, that's 116F (hottest posted yet)... Remember there is NO sensor ON the CPU and the closest sensor (depending on which program you use) is on the compass sensor near the CPU so the CPU is likely at least a few degrees HOTTER than that.

The CPU is rated to 100 degrees Celsius. So 47 in terms of the CPU (not battery life or heat) is nothing.

The CPU may be rated to 100C but other components on the board likely aren't. Not to mention the board itself is not likely meant to handle those temperatures for prolonged periods. People forget that what things are 'rated for' doesn't necessarily mean they are meant to handle them for indefinite periods w/o repercussions. That is simply their limit. In addition most complex electronics have and adversely proportional relationship between temp and lifespan, especially when approaching those operational limits.

I understand that, but if you are at less than half the rated temp I would think you should be good.

lol, yeah, there seams to be little rhyme or reason as to why there are such temp differences between users. Some people can run 3d games at temps other idle at... of course 'where' the temp is being taken can make a big difference (the battery temp is the least useful).

Thats basically what OC does .... thats why the chip won't last as long if you do it. I wish we could see how long a life most people are getting with OC ... although it wouldn't stop me from doing it unless it was less than a year or so.

The people with boot issues were trying to clock over 1ghz. The kernel works great (i flashed over bugless beast) and the new temperature sensor is much better.

You can notice the difference because the correct CPU sensor gets hot quickly and cools very quickly more inline with the cpu's load.

It says in Taz's post on alldroid that it is good to 105C... I thought I would post this here for you guys... lol nothing to fear, you will never see an operating temp out of these field limits.:icon_ banana:

the temp might not be outside the hardwares limits, but im sure some temperatures would be outside of the users comfortable limits.

But why? Those are the limits that the device was designed to operate within, anything outside those limits is questionable territory. According to taz's post the max he has seen is 65C and that is not even anywhere near the max allowable.
