An update to Key Lime Pie from ICS, or an update from GB to JB is highly unrealistic. Each new build of Android is obviously built off of its direct predecessor. In order to get Jellybean on our Bionics, we need at least some software components from ICS in order for it to be complete. Motorola is playing catch-up right now to ensure that we get ICS, and that will provide some of the components we need to run Jellybean.

Its the same reason why we couldnt upgrade Windows 98 directly to Windows Vista.

So (the layman asks), will ICS support dual core?

Im pretty sure if it werent for the carrier, we'd have more flexibility over that. Verizon loves controlling what software we have on our phones. But theyre supposed to be the carrier, not the software developer; Thats Google. All Verizon should be doing is providing the service for the phones, but theyre sticking their nose in where it doesnt belong.

Like a house on fire! It's not even the same phone anymore. It's visceral, the difference, you feel it hard. The only way I can describe the difference between GB and ICS on the Bionic is it's the same as the pit of your stomach adrenaline rush that you got the first time yo had a blazin' 4G device in your hand downloading at 20-30 Mbps, compared to what you were used to at 3G. It's that kind of difference, this is the OS this hardware was made for.

Well, in theory they COULD release a full installer - but the differential patch updates are already approaching 400MB. I would assume that a full installer with everything needed would easily be a couple hundred megabytes larger. It would be too large to release OTA, more than likely.

Exactly. The biggest problem the Bionic ever had was that the hardware was light years beyond the software. If ICS had existed when the Bionic launched (or even during its active lifetime) I really think it would be one of the most popular phones on the network. The Bionic running Android 2.3.4 made about as much sense as a Core i7 PC running Windows 2000. The OS just cannot make use of the hardware.

fair point, but the way he worded it, it seemed like he believed it was a single core phone.

Well, it does in a way - just not fully. Gingerbread, from what I understand, only uses the second core to process touchscreen events. This is slightly better than a single core phone, but not much.

5000???!!!!! The freaking Bionic running ICS at 1.2 GHz only scores around 3000-3100, 3200 if you force 2D GPU rendering. That damn Marauder is almost as fast as a GS3.

That was my attitude back in June/July. Now Im like used to running outdated software on the Bionic, so Im like "Meh, whatever" now. When ICS arrives itll be like "Oh, thats cool. Now i wont have bluetooth issues with my car radio anymore". Lol xD
