Motorola Droid

My friend traded me the first Droid for Verizon yesterday. I can't get his email off of the phone. I have tried resetting the phone from the settings, but nothing happens. I have tried turning the phone off and holding x and the power button and I never get the green triangle.

I even took the phone to Verizon and they told me they couldn't do anything. Does anyone know how I can get this gmail account off of the phone?

Resetting worked for me when I got my used DROID from craigslist....
