Motorola droid will not display battery life

i was using my phone like i always do today, but after taking it out of my pocket in the middle of the day the phone crashed. Then when i turned it back on instead of the battery meter displaying the battery life on the top bar, the battery symbol turned grey displaying a question mark instead. the phone acts like it normally would and has not turned off unexpectedly so far.

I did switch the battery with my friends moto droid and found that my phone did display the appropriate battery life using his battery, so maybe my battery is just defective. any suggestions?

i guess ill just go to the verizon store and see if they will replace the battery for free

Sounds defective. Verizon should replace it.
