And in my opinion three years is good. I'm happy with it, knowing all my Mods will still work in 2018. Not money wasted at all in my opinion. I guess we agree to disagree.

Bit of a slippery slope. Good for 3 years. If I buy in 2019 that means the Mod from 2017 work... AND the mods from 2020? How can they EVER change the design then?

That is one drawback, they can't change the basic design of the phone until the 2019 model. They said that the first 3 generations (2016, 2017 and 2018) would all be compatible. I guarantee that people will be complaining and bitching about the 2018 Z series looking too much like the first two models; when they don't understand that it has to look similar to the first two so we can keep using our Moto Mods all the way into the third generation.

Think of it like this too, you buy the first gen, get some mods, wait two years and gen 3 is now out... Your original mods will still work, then you have your gen 3 phone for another 2-3 years.

That means the mods you bought for gen 1 will have a 4 - 5+ year life span... Even the most expensive mods will be a max of what $40 per year. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Also that's assuming gen 4 or 5 doesn't keep the same design for simplicity.

It would be my luck that an android update would make the mod unusable so moto can say it was not their fault...they tried, but could not keep their promise :-(

Moto Mods have their own updates and own Settings within the phone. Mods are updated independently from the phone and the phones OS. It's a beautiful thing.

I received my new Moto Wireless Charging Shells today. Pretty nice looking and seem to work good. Phone recognized it as a new wireless Mod right away (good job keeping the Mod Manager app updated Moto ) and worked right away on my Verizon brand charger.

I read this morning that the new Gamepad Mod is on sale for $50 at Verizon (maybe elsewhere also), a $30 savings.

Verizon always has sales on accessories. Nearly every mod is overpriced. LOL

I agree, I wouldn't think that a sale indicates a poor product or bad sales. Just Verizon moving stock, they put stuff on sale all the time.

I do think Moto is being shortsighted on the price of mods though. I would use the mods as sort of a loss leader. Sell at a loss, cheap. Get people hooked on them so they evangelize for you and stay loyal to the brand. If I had a Z and bought a projector for $150, a JBL for $40, a game controller for $50, a battery mod, some cases. I might be staying with Moto so I can still use my things.

Friend, single mom, has a Z. Her 2 sons have Z's. $100? She'd buy a projector for the family. Imagine how much fun a 12 and 14 year old would find a projector? Yea...she's not paying $300.
