I asked this question in the CM7 build thread, but wasn't answered, so I'm starting a new topic.

I am currently running Winner00's #51 build alongside deprimed #20. Have been running this combo for a while now and it has been pretty stable. No wifi issues, no 3G issues, and only one reboot in recent memory.

I'd like to know what the most stable current combo is, in terms of which CM7 build alongside which kernel build. Most stable meaning at the very least as stable as my current combo, as in no crashes, 3G issues, wifi issues, etc. And I'd like to know if I will have to wipe /data to flash from #51 to whatever number I should be using, or if /system and /cache will suffice.

    Thanks!

PERSONAL OPINION: For the original Droid, I think if you REALLY want stability above all else, look to the ROM builds that are built around Froyo, NOT Gingerbread. That means CM6, or Bugless Beast. As far as the OG Droid is concerned, GB is still baking in the oven...

That being said, I don't mind putting up with the occasional annoyance as both CM7.0.3 and GPA15 are working "pretty well" for me.

I am sticking with CM7. That's why I asked for the most stable current CM7 rom/kernel combo.

If you want the most stable CM7, I'd say stick with the ROM it comes with...

You should try one of the newer builds. A lot has changed since the 50s. Lots of new stuff. I'm on winner's latest with deprimed and running smooooooooth.

Never used Sapphire 2.0.2? Super stable froyo build. Not a joke. Don't know if its still available but its far more stable then any GB build.

Right, but my title, my OP, and all my responses thus far have made it pretty clear I am asking for the most stable CM7 combo. I don't care about Froyo.

Your postings may've, but your title doesn't imply any particular version of Android... just the most stable. THAT'S why you're getting the responses you're seeing.

Okay, you're right about my title, but is it so much to ask that people actually read the goddamn OP?

The problem with Sapphire (and ALL Froyo-based ROMs I've checked so far) is that they're all built around Froyo 2.2.1, and that version has a known serious SMS flaw, as well as some security holes that were plugged by 2.2.2 and Gingerbread.

I think the problem is that when Gingerbread came out, all of the ROM developers dropped Froyo and moved on to Gingerbread. I've yet to find ANY custom ROM built around Froyo 2.2.2 (which patches those aforementioned-problems). That includes Bugless Beast, Sapphire and CM6.:motdroidhoriz:

To tell you the truth, with my Gingerbread experiences, I wish I could find a custom ROM built around the CURRENT Froyo kernel (2.2.2). Unfortunately, it looks like every custom Froyo ROM out there is built around 2.2.1 which has a known, serious SMS flaw as well as some security holes that were plugged by 2.2.2.

But for ultimate Gingerbread stability, I'd stick with the kernel your distro includes. There's a reason the developers shipped it with that particular kernel... it's because it was the most stable under the most different conditions. Anything else will be trial and error and what works on my phone may not necessarily work on yours.

I'm running CM7.0.2 with the latest deprimed kernel... lil afraid to switch to anything else, but I did enjoy the slayher (1.2ghz) kernel as well... deprimed just seems to run a bit smoother for me, while slayher posted a bit better quadrant and ran games a little better.

    Hope that helps.
