The speedtest.net app just isn't reliable at all. It constantly gives out low numbers on android phones (i've tried it on many different phones), but the iOS app gives accurate information (verizon iphone).

Are there any other ways to do a 3g speed test on android phones?

I use FCC test but it's pretty much the same. Low numbers might equate to bad reception since it is a mobile network.

Well, speedtest.net is all over the place on my PC home wifi, too. Depending on the time of day, I get anywhere from 9-16mbps down. Changing servers can often give me significantly different results, and one that always seems higher (300 miles away from my "home" server) gave me 20mbps the other day.
