On my droid 1, there was an option do deselect the checkbox that said "delete old messages" so that none of the texts are deleted.

on my droid 2, there is no such option. The maximum i can set it to is 1000. is there a way i can set it so that it does not delete old texts?

Not that I have found. But, there are apps out there that can save all your texts as .txt files to your SD card so that they can still not be lost.
