Message Icon not working?? HELP!!!!

Im trying to get to my messages screen and wen i press on the "messages" icon all in does is make the "clicking" noise. Only way i can even text is if someone texts me and i attrive it out of my Notifications Bar. Anybody know what i can do??!!! PLZ HELP!! Ill need step by step instructions in "english" not tech words PLZ lol

Touch the icon in the upper toolbar then drag it down. It will open up a list to tell you what the icon means. If you touch on the text that relates to your message, it will take you to your message. Touch the 'CLEAR' button within that pulldown to get rid of the icon if it doesn't go away or if you want to clear the icon before you actually read the message.
