There is a semiconductor company that seems to be trying to get a foothold on the low-end to mid-range Android market. They just announced they will be focusing their efforts toward developing some very inexpensive Android phones that will all be running Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich. This also happens to be a company that is a partner with Google on Google TV. They are planning on offering unlocked phones to the masses for under $190 bucks. Interestingly, the spec sheet for their phones reads like a list of features from the top-of-the-line phones at the beginning of last year. These might not be the cutting edge now, but they were pretty decent not that long ago, and make for a compelling price point on an ICS enabled phone. Here's the spec list:
    • 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor
    • 3G/HSPA modem
    • 8MP camera
    • 720p high-definition playback/recording
    • qHD (960×540)
    • PowerVR SGX Series 5 GPU
    • Dual SIM capable
Hmmmm... it would be nice to see how much RAM & storage space, and what screen size they will have, but it might be worth a second glance. The phones are due sometime in the first quarter of 2012. What do you think?
