I manually edited my build.prop file last night to stop the OTA update and had around 60% left on the battery, woke up this morning to find it at about 15%, normally left un-touched it only drains about 15% throughout the night. my question is did I just forget to plug my phone in for too long (over sleeping like a mo-fo) or can a manual edit affect battery life, ive been around these forums for awhile, but I feel like a total noob for having to ask this question. anyway guys, thanks ahead of time for the help.

you... don't plug your phone in at night??

Did you make sure to reboot your phone after you modified your build.prop? and also, what changes did you make? I haven't had any problems with battery drain, especially since modding that and keeping it from pulling the data from VZ. Before i fixed the build.prop, it zapped my batter pretty quick since the screen didn't shut off when the nag screen popped up.

Something to try, since you modded the build.prop manually, try going back to the original (change your current, modded build.prop to build.prop.bak.bak or something) and change build.prop.bak to build.prop and see how the battery life is. Bad part about this is that the nag will come back.

leaving it plugged in for longer than it takes it to charge completely is bad on the battery, if I go to sleep with a full charge and dont plug it in, its still usually got atleast 75-80% the next day, which with a wall charger doesnt take that long to charge back to 100% before I leave for the day.

Have never had any problems with "overcharging" or anything like that.

What's this statement based on? The battery will not overcharge.

    I figured out my problem

batteries are batteries, leaving it plugged into the charger will cause it to generate more heat than it would otherwise, longer exposure to higher temps will shorten the batteries lifespan, same thing with a laptop battery. if you leave it charging too long, too often, it essentially forgets how to hold that charge for as long as it would have otherwise, if you guys have never experienced what im talking about, then you are lucky! back to the original issue though, I had set my screen timeout to 10 minutes so that I could more easily switch between tracks in winamp while driving without having to hit the lock button to light the screen up each time, forgetting this and leaving it in my pocket with the screen on for 10minute intervals, was causing it to drain faster, I set it back to 30 seconds and have re-gained my old battery life.

I thought lithium batteries had no real "memory"?

The issue can APPEAR that the battery has memory or is failing because short periods between discharge and recharge throw off the battery guage

    How to prolong lithium-based batteries

(This was addressing the statement that the battery has memory)
