OTA upgrade has improved DROID's battery life (Phone Arena News)

So apparently it improves the droids battery life

Does anyone have that file in update.zip form cuz I could go for some improved battery life, someone should definitely get this file out there with root for people to update to if it really has increased battery life

I felt the battery was pretty good to begin with in 2.0. It seems to me my battery life got better with the 2.0.1 update as well. However, I haven't received the latest OTA update yet.

This maintenance update is still just rumor to me. Until I see it myself... I don't believe it's a separate update.

I mean I'll be up, just to check....:icon_ devil: Wouldn't be surprised to see you around either :)
I just don't see VZW spending 4-5 days time rolling out a maintenance release only to turn around and spend another 4-5 days to roll out 2.1. That's all.

    I agree.

At the same time though I don't deny the stupidity of people...

    Look at NBC with Conan.

Wish we knew how the updates went like if it started out in the west coast and went east or the reverse or some sort of pattern!

The last update (2.0.1) expressly addressed that battery life was extended. I didn't see much if any of a difference but it lead to a million post on the subject, both for and against.

Whenever this update comes out I can guarantee you will see a short phase of overwhelming praise followed by a very long list of complaints.

Remember you heard it here first. :)

I know if you live in Southern Indiana you'd be lucky to see it by June. I don't think any company gives a crap about the midwest.

The updates are totally random. There is no pattern to it whatsoever. If you get it first, you were just plain lucky. Doesn't go by state, by how much you use your Droid, and it doesn't even go by race or religion.

You can try all you want but you won't be able to establish a pattern.

That's just weird that they wouldn't have a system, but you're right. I'll never figure it out if they do.

I personally haven't really noticed much of a battery difference. I spend about 8 hours a day at work, randomly charging it whenever I'm at my desk, then I leave it uncharged til about 12AM or 1AM after I get off work with random usage. Seemed the same to me.

The battery is fine to me but more battery won't hurt

I'd just like to point out that saying that they don't have a system is not the same as saying the updates are random.

When dealing with relativly large files being pushed out to a million or more handsets, pushing the files out in an obviously systematic way (by location, especially) can over-burden networks. Instead, pushing out the updates in a random or pseudo-random way will balance the load on the network and prevent some areas from becoming bogged down while others are completely free.

Its also possible that the updates are pushed out in a way that coorelates to the network's usage in a specific area, so that they get pushed out faster to areas with lower usage, but since the network is typically built to have increased capacity in areas that typically have increased usage, this method would still result in an update process that would appear random to the outside observer.

now, back on topic, I'd be willing to bet that the increased battery life is either a placebo, or a result of a somewhat coorupted 2.0.1 install that was fixed by applying the full 2.0.1 update (similar to some theories on why facebook is fixed for some people, while others never had a problem with it)
