By Home 2.1 Home do you mean the stock home screen?

I'm not even sure it's removable. I'd leave it alone.

I renamed mine using Root Explorer in case I ever need it. This also prevents it from running in the background using up valuable resources.

Rename, dont delete it. Then if you take out the other one, you can rename back beforehand.

which file are we renaming for this? i use helix and have no intention of going back to the stock home, and didn't even realize it may still be running in the background.

what are we renaming and where's it located?

Well, I recently switched to UD just to try it out...I ended up deleting my Home 2.1 launcher because the ROM came with Helix and Launcher 2. It seems to me that Home 2.1 is an app just like Helix/Launcher/GDE etc. This is my personal experience, however, I don't expect that you will brick your phone or cause any other damage by deleting it. But to be safe, I'd rename it as the others have suggested.

Oh by the way....I'm switching back to BB...I like UD and all of the extras you get with it, but after a few days it just force closes, no matter what configuration I try.

I also would like to know what file people are renaming as I currently use helix launcher on my BB 0.9 ROM and don't want the other home screen running in the background.

Also, can I install a new kernel file without losing my home screens and so on...I want to have the option to over clock. but plan on leaving it at 600mhz seeing as it runs smooth as is...

Because even if you set some home app as a default, the other ones that are installed will also be running in the background. This uses up resources and slows down your phone. By renaming (as opposed to deleting because this is the safer route to go), your phone will not recognize these as home screens and so they won't be running in the background and your phone will have more free memory and will run smoother/faster.

Can you PLEASE tell me what file to rename. I have asked and heard others on this forum ask the same question with no response. So many people understand the concept but I haven't had anyone explain step-by-step what to do!!!

Sure... Here is a complete guide that will lead you through the process step-by-step. I do not take credit for this. This was written by SwordOfWar over at CyanogenMod Forums. Feel free to go there and thank him... it's a fantastic guide ;)

I recommend READING THROUGH THE ENTIRE GUIDE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO THIS! I will not (and I'm sure SwordOfWar wouldn't either) claim responsibility for anything that goes wrong during this process, so please be sure you read EVERYTHING and are comfortable with working inside of adb shell.

It has been my experience that the above mentioned how-to will solve a lot of lag issues with Launcher2 while running live wallpapers as well.

There is an easier way if you just want to delete the launcher all together. I assume you are rooted.

Get "root explorer" from the market...it's like $1.50.
browse to /system/app/ then click on image at top right once until it changes from "Mount as read/o" to "Mount as read/w"
then find "launcher" in the list.....
long press on it and then select delete..

That deletes it from system. click on image again at top before exiting to change back to "mount as read/o".

I completely removed the stock launcher from /system/app and data/data a few days ago, and have had zero issues. I run helix launcher. The only negative is I lost the stock wallpapers, but I just downloaded some other ones anyway.
