It sounds to me as if you don't have the rageinthecage file on there or its not in the right place.

Sent from my DROID2 using DroidForums App

It is in the /sdcard/download directory. Verified and extracted using Astro. There was no error during the part of the process where files are copied from that directory to /tmp. I just used astro to look in /tmp, and the bin file is there.

ive seen people having issues not unrooting then trying to reroot after taking an OTA update. maybe just try another way to reroot?

theres this
RoOoLeR's Guide to ROOT / BACKUP / ROMS for 2.2 OTA
for another possible way to root.

id suggest keep trying different methods to root or you could always flash the SBF to your phone to start all over.

OK, I tried the method you linked. It seems to have only sort of worked. The RootMyX program seemed to complete OK after a few tries. Terminal Emulator returns a # when I type su. But I do not see the SuperUser app in the app drawer, yet the app manager lists it as installed. I also tried running Titanium Backup and AdFree, both of which require su permission, both of which tried to ask the system for it, and neither could obtain it.

:) hooray for headaches.

***EDIT** After three successive reboots, it now seems that I do indeed have full root access. I see the su icon, get the # in terminal, Titanium Backup, AdFree, and Audiogalaxy all now seem to function correctly. So... thanks!! I shall reply again if something goes south.

THanks again!!!!

So... what's the difference between a theme and a rom? Is one better than the other? Do you have to wipe data before applying one or the other?

That's like asking the difference between an LS-1 engine and a Ford Escort. :)

A ROM is the basic software that runs the phone, a theme is the window dressing you put on to pretty it up. You wipe system/data to install the ROM, you make a backup and pray your phone doesn't lock up when you install the theme.

EDIT:

That's the procedure for the D1. On the X I have no idea what the actual procedure is. Or even if you CAN theme the X. Probably. Sorry, sometimes I have so much going on I forget what you can and can't do with the individual phones.
