I've used them all, but "Setting Profiles" is the best out there, by far. There's a lite (free) and a full version ($2.95). The lite is limited to one rule, but it'll give you a good idea of how it all works. This app does everything, and has a good widget. Get it, spend the time figuring it out (there's a thread out there on this too), and skip the rest of them.

I just turn off the notifications sounds for email/facebook/etc. Usually if I want to check them I will do it manually, or I will see the solid blue led which means I have a new email waiting.

Locale si the best bet. I have used it since buying my Droid back in November. I work overnights so I have to have silent in my home when sleeping, and with this I can set it to only ring certain days and times. For the "just text" thing you would simply set it to accept calls/text from those contacts you would expect to hear from (work) but not for the drunk text that could wake you up if you don't want that.

I use the app bedtime...this is a great alarm clock that lets you stream pandora to wakeup if used with appalarm and will silence all but the important calls while you dock your phone or activate the app......GREAT FOR THE PRICE

Sound Manager works great. lets you set volumes/vibrate at the times you want and the days you want and saves it.

There is also a free version of SP that supports a single active profile. That might do for what you want to use it for.

I came from a long line of Black Berry devices my last being the Storm. I use Timeriffic and think that's the app your looking for. You can set just about everything based on time values.
