Found this place while searching for a way to change the LED light on Burton, my Droid 3. Light flow works beautifully, by the way! I need to track down who suggested that app, because it is amazing and I can't believe my 3 is capable of all these colors.

I own one other Droid, the OG Motorola Droid, named Mechakara, and retired on account of saving me a hospital visit and serious injury. Okay, story time.

I was at a Halloween festival with my church group, and I had gotten separated from them. While trying to find out where they were, through txting, I stepped in a ridiculous pothole and took a big spill onto the ground (in costume, no less!), scuffing up my knee and legs and cutting up my arms...but I would have fallen hard hand first onto the pavement and likely broken my hand had it not been for my Droid. The Droid significantly softened my fall, taking the brunt of the damage and saving me from it. To show for it, now said Droid has a seriously scratched display, a broken camera, and likely, should my Droid be sentient (he probably is!), a broken ego as well. Other than the camera and the display hiccups, the Droid still works like a charm.

Before this incident, I was going to likely sell Mechakara to get money for the Droid 3 (was later a Christmas present from my father). But afterwards? I decided to retire the phone to my computer desk, complete with battery and accessories, in case I have another phone mishap again.

Some time, I'll have to tell the story as to how I first came to own an Android, but for now, said Droid saving my backside from injury will have to do.

I look forward to spending a lot of time here.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I suppose I should tell my Android origin story, as it is.

Before I ever laid hands on an Android phone, I used the typical clam shell phones. First my mother got me an Alias, then I upgraded to the Alias 2. Both of them fell apart in various ways. The Atlas 2 actually came apart after dropping it *once*. I was traveling to Virginia in the next few months, so I needed a new phone quick. Seeing as Christmas was coming up, Dad asked me what kind of phone I wanted; I told him that I wanted a Motorola Droid (by now the phone was a year old but I was still very fascinated by it) to replace my phone. This wasn't my first experience with Motorola phones; indeed, before I was with Verizon, I was with Nextel, then Sprint, and the Motorola I received survived being dropped into an oversized cup of Dr. Pepper, being dropped from the 9th floor of a college dormitory, and sundry other things that ailed it, yet it still worked, so I knew that not only was I getting a snazzy toy, I was getting a phone that I knew could take a beating, if it came down to it.

Within three days, the phone arrived. I discovered that the Droid was pre-owned, but still in very good shape. However, when I tried to activate the phone, the activation was refused every single time. I tried a total of nine times and swore that my Droid was laughing at me as I called Verizon on a landline in an attempt to remotely activate the Droid. The activation worked, and soon a 90-second long marathoning of "DROID! DROID! DROID!" terrified me, thinking that my phone was pissed I had finally managed activation. Over the next few weeks, the Droid would go off for no reason, backlog txt messages, and sometimes restart just because. What was even better was when the Droid's GPS knowingly sent me in the wrong direction somewhere. This led me to believe that my phone was self-aware and trolling me, probably p.o'ed about being dumped by the previous owner. And thus I named the phone Mechakara, after a rogue android in an internet show that I happen to work for, who took every opportunity to annoy and make miserable his former "master."

Even though Mecha's retired and now I have a Droid 3, Burton, for my daily use, my friends hear the "DROID!" and reflexively go "Shut up Mecha!" Burton has his moments too, though his mischief is mild compared to that of the Froyo Droid.
