So I am a newb to the forums, been readin several articles on rooting and all that. Basically I have a 2.1 update 1, I wanna root and update to the froyo...but I have no access to a laptop or anything I am in training with the Army...

Is this possible to do this without a pc? I hear some say it will work others don't recomend it.

Ok cool thanks, that was a fast response...I will see if I can track some sort of computer down...

So just to make sure I am straight
    Downgrade to 2.01
    Use rsd to root
    What drivers 32 or 64
Then I am pretty fuzzy on what to do?

I suggest looking up a tutorial if you are new to the idea.
*WARNING* if you do it wrong, you can brick your phone (render it unusable)

The 32 or 64 bit drivers depend on the computer you're using. You'll also need to download several files, so it might be best to wait until you can secure your own computer or use a friends.

But as for rooting, you don't need to revert back to 2.0.1 first. I used the directions from DroidLife for rooting, and it's what I'd recommend. He provides step-by-step directions that are very easy to follow and practically fool proof. So whenever you're ready to root, head to this link. How to: Root Android 2.1 and Install Android 2.2 on Motorola DROID - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
