Sry if this is a dumb question however I am a beginner trying to learn... with that said in order to get liberty do I hav to be rooted? Wuts the difference between that n gingerbread or is that more of a surprise thing?

Yes you do have to be rooted to flash a rom and as far as gingerbread is concerned ill let somebody else answer that cause I haven't kept up with it as much as liberty...

All I see are screenshots that show some new themes and backgrounds. Still using outdated kernel, etc.

I don't think that answers the question of what's new in the ROM.
