Mobile World Congress is just a week away but LG has already announced the Optimus VU! It has a 5 inch screen, but what makes it interesting is that it has a 4:3 screen ratio, 8.5mm thick and has LTE. I guess LG really is trying to stand out from the competition. The only thing that could make this device more interesting is if it shipped with ICS, but sadly, it does not.

Specifications:
  • Dimensions: 139.6 x 90.4 x 8.5mm / Weight: 168 g
  • Display: 5 inch IPS (1024x768) 650 Knit Display
  • Camera: 8 Megapixel Rear, 1.3 Megapixel Front facing
  • Storage: 32GB Internal
  • CPU: Qualcomm 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • Android 2.3
  • Battery: 2,080 mAh
  • Other: HDMI, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, T-DMB support, etc.

This is supposed to be a phone right?

It looks like it would be very bad to hold if you're on a phone call.

If you have small hands, then I could see it being a problem.

I'm talking about the design. It's nothing like the note. The Note is fairly rounded, and shaped more like a phone. This one looks like a sharp square.

Using it like a tablet seems fine, but as a phone... looks ridged. Guess it's just me.

I agree. I just don't see it being a real issue unless you are trying to put it in your pocket or play with it. It looks like it could poke your eye out.:p

I think you need some deep pockets, or a man purse for those kind of phones.

Maybe it's time to make a topic about what man purses are in season :D

As someone hoping for 4 in screens, this trend is disturbing...

Definitely not a fan of the design. Looks like it would be very awkward to hold onto and use.

It's a satchel!

European man bag. lol...

I think the 5" and 5.3" screens are just too big to be realistically used as your everyday device. I think Samsung may have gotten it right with the 4.65 on the Galaxy Nexus. It's big, but not awkward big. Now if they can only get my radio issues fixed. :)
