Although there were almost no surprises going into this event due to a huge variety of leaks over the past few months, it's still exciting to see the new LG G3 officially unveiled, and LG managed to pull a few new "tricks" out of their hat. LG's ad campaign is now called "Simple is the new smart."

Here's the full scoop of specs and features for the LG G3, as revealed during the live stream event:

    • 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor
    • 2/3GB of RAM (depending on model)
    • 6/32GB memory (depending on model)
    • 5.5-inch 2K QHD IPS Display (2560 x 1440 res) 538PPI (LG attempts to dispel myth about extra high resolution with high PPI invisible to human eye) - 3-way adaptive optimization to improve battery life - class leading screen ratio
    • Five Colors confirmed: Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet and Burgundy Red.
    • 13MP Camera with Advanced OIS+ and Laser AutoFocus Confirmed (only .276 seconds to auto focus) - Advanced OIS+ is 20% better than the G2
    • Revamped and superior 2.1MP front camera - enlarged image sensors with more lenses - designed to improve selfies
    • Improved mic audio quality with the Quad HD video recording
    • 3,000 mAh Removable Battery - with wireless charging support
    • Smart Keyboard, Smart Notice, & Smart Security/Knock Code
    • A microSD slot (128GB supported)
    • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth Smart Ready (Apt-X), NFC, SlimPort, A-GPS/Glonass, USB 2.0
    • 4G LTE
    • Android 4.4.2 KitKat with only some custom apps on top
    • “metallic skin on the rear cover, that is lightweight, fingerprint-resistant and most of all, aesthetically pleasing.” update: the material is actually a faux metal, plastic composite.

The LG G3 will be launched in South Korea on May 28, and will be available in over 170 carriers later in the year. It is definitely coming this summer on all four major carriers in the United States. You can check out the full press release in the thread below. Sound off with your thoughts on LG's impressive new achievement in smartphone innovation.

This phone looks great, but I want to see battery life stats, that 2K QHD screen has to be a killer on the battery.

@dgstorm it looks like LG just named the colors of the LG G3 devices, which they happen to be: Metallic Black, Silk White, Shine Gold, Moon Violet and Burgundy Red.

Yes, but hopefully the "3-way adaptive optimization to improve battery life" (whatever that means) will compensate for that.

I can't wait to try one of these phones!
