    I have an original DROID. I rooted it after the 2.2 update and all is fine. About 2 days ago I got an announcement that an system update was available and so I said go ahead. It rebooted into the boot screen with "reboot now" highlighted and the long dialog below culminating the "update.zip was blocked".

    Anyway, I just rebooted and all was good. So yesterday the same thing. I instead went down to the update selection and selected it. I forget (was on the road) what the ensuing dialog was, but I didn't feel good about it so I backed out and rebooted.

    My question is: can I do future system updates now that I am rooted? Or if I do then do I need to re-root all over? I mean I'm not sure what was in this update and if I even want it, but I will have this phone for another year so I would like to know my options.

    Thank you,
    Jim

    If you do the update it breaks root and you will have to reroot using this link. I personally would just wait until a rom comes out with all the updates and be happy

    Since you're rooted and if you want to abolish the annoying update dialogs until you have negotiated your update issue:

    Wait until just after the dialog appears and you click "install later"

    Open /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/shared_prefs/update.xml in a text editor,

    Change this:
    <long name="next_dialog" value="1292117317392" />

    To this:
    <long name="next_dialog" value="1295117317392" />
    adding 3000000000 to the figure,

    Save the file and reboot. This will schedule the next update dialog for just a hair under a year from now.

    You might try removing or renaming /mnt/sdcard/update.zip if you want to go ahead with the update. The permissions may be your problem. Let me know what transpires!

    My phone keeps asking me to update. I'm already rooted. And i have SPRecovery so it won't let the phone update. How can i update it? I hear that this update that my phone is trying to install makes the phone run better since the droid has issues so i'd really like to install it.

    I made a rooted version of FRG83D if that's what you're looking for. There are instructions on flashing it in my thread too. Post your questions in it if you decide to flash it. Here's a link.

    I guess that's what im talking about? I have FRG22D and i heard that this new mini update fixes the lag while scrolling and basically makes the phone run much smoother all together. So i guess the FRG83D is what i need.

    Yeah that's what you're looking for. FRG83D is the latest ota from Verizon. The one I linked is just a rooted version.

    Honestly you don't want any stock stuff on your phone. The update doesn't do much and there will be a rooted version out soon anyways.

    I loaded the stock rom after using UD and the first chance I get tonight, I'm rooting and getting rid of it. The only thing I like is that the camera actually works best with stock over the others.

    Well you would have to unroot to load the patch as it is. If you want to try it I made a rooted version. That way you can try and re-load BB if you dont like it.

    OK, here is a question: Is there a way to remove the OTA update that got downloaded and/or get the phone to stop asking me to install it?

    I'm happy with the existing version of Bugless Beast and would like to keep it just the way it is. It is getting pretty annoying selecting "Install Later" every time I open my phone.

    I figured on a custom ROM they would suppress OTA updates. This makes sense since anything from Verizon will break root and probably won't work well on a custom ROM to begin with?

    Could the update be the one that everyone is talking about to get the new version of the market?
