So I have installed the Charity Rom and I see it uses ChevyNo1's 1100Mhz Ultra Low Voltage Kernel. It runs great on my Droid but my question is this.

Is there any need for SetCPU? Is a kernel like this set to overclock and underclock by itself? Governor set up?

Correction. It uses chevy's 1100 interactive low voltage kernel.

So it's looking like setcpu isn't even needed?

Only if you want to use profiles.

    Thanks for the reply!

I had mine set to 900 max and on demand. Then I noticed his kernel was set for 1100 interactive.

I changed it in SetCPU to 800 interactive and now I'm debating on reflashing since it's overclocked anyway and leaving out SetCPU.

I'm currently using that Charity Smoked Glass ROM. I would reflash that and not reinstall SetCPU

    Why not just uninstall setcpu?

Fair enough. I just wasn't sure if uninstalling it would release the kernel to default.

I'm not sure I understand. You won't have the profiles or any settings placed within setcpu upon your kernel but you will still have the same kernel.

sorry. i didnt mean to confuse anyone, i hadn't had my coffee yet.

    post coffee post...

I had just learned last night that the chevy kernels are clocked at certain speeds automatically. Coming from an Eris, this was new to me. I had installed setCPU and didn't use profiles, merely set it to ondemand (which i have changed to interactive) and 800 max and left the 250 min.

This morning I see a few people saying setCPU can lower battery life and it might be ideal to let the kernel do it's thing alone. So, my thinking was reflash to see what happens if i don't use setCPU, but on the other hand, i'm really only using it to limit the speeds to 800 for the sake of battery life.

much better post - thank you coffee.

Oh ok! You could always switch to a lower clocked Chevyno1 kernel as well. Like if all you're wanting is 800MHz just use the 800.

I looked around for a cumulative list of kernels available and i didn't find any simple lists. Because of that I didn't know there was an 800mhz kernel. Is it ULV? I really want to try an 800 ULV kernel and see if my phone will allow it. I don't do any games on my phone or anything. Just texting, email, calling, web and a little Tune In Radio.

Thanks for your help so far. I am quite fluent with my Eris and rom's and such, but the Droid is completely different.

Thanks for the link! I found it about 5 minutes before I saw this post. I'm trying a 1gz ULV kernel. 800 ULV was very laggy, but 1GHZ seems okay.

tempted to try 800LV over 1GHZULV.

So, these auto step from slow to fast using interactive right? so, since I like minimal installs, i actually dont need setCPU at all?

Zoomy- does your rom have a performance section in the settings? If it does, you can adjust as needed from there.

Poontab- do the kernels you just linked work well for you? I've always used chevys kernels but like the idea of the smartass governor. How would you compare the two kernels?

My rom is this one for now...

    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/android-roms/101662-rom-charity-smoked-glass-themed-version-11-froyo-2-2-1-frg83d-8.html

becasue i really like the clean look and simplicity of it.

It doesn't have a performance section like many other rom's do and I honestly like that it doesnt. Just simple (but not stock).

I am using the 800ULV kernel right now and will see how it works for the next 12 hours. i'm just loking for the best battery life possible. i dont play games or anything on my device. just need it to last a long time. I hope 800ULV get's me there.

As for the smartass gov, i tried to use it lots of times on my Eris and it never worked well for me. I'm curious if the droid would act better. Is Interactive bad? Are there ULV kernels that use smartass?

Well I just flast one of the kernels that poontab posted (1200mhz) and its very comparible in speed to chevys. I like the smartmod, smartass governor idea, so we'll see how it goes. I don't do any gaming at all on my droid but I like the higher speeds because I HATE lag! I'm curious how the battery life will be with this governor and kernel.

Also, it does say in the thread poontab posted that those kernels are very low voltage. My droid never handled ulv very well, but its taking to this one nicely. Although I don't think its quite ulv.

Cool, let me know how you like it.
