However, there is always the chance that a large enough static charge (the kind that shocks the crap out of you :icon_eekcould damage the phone. In my experience however, the Droid just reboots with a large enough ESD.

Seriously, in the winter, the new carpet in my apartment is insane when it comes to static! I can walk (not drag my feet on purpose) from the bedroom to the office (about 10 feet) and touch the light switch and get a nice *pop!* from the static discharge, every time.
