    Hey guys...
Everytime I download a non-market theme I try to update my current items in market and I get a forceclose and cannot download any updates like MM. Can someone tell me why I always get the forceclose? I then install the backup root to normal and then I can download the updates. Once I try to install a new theme, same thing happens. I have rooted my phone but have the same ROM as what came with the phone. Please let me know what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks,
    Kerry

You may be trying a theme that is for a specific ROM or for a different build than you are running.
If you want a certain theme I suggest you see what ROM it'll run on and first download and install that ROM. Then just install the them right over the ROM.

Based on what you're saying, it sounds like you've rooted your phone, but not downloaded any form of new rom. Themes are designed to tweak the way a rom looks and behaves, so the various themes are tied in with specific roms. What theme are you trying to install? Make sure you have the rom that corresponds to that theme installed first, then try installing the theme.

    Hope that helps,

    -Mike

    Thanks!

You can "shop" around here: Droid Hacking - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum
    -OR-
You can download ROM Manager from the market and download both ROMs and themes from there.
You'll find there are plenty to choose from! Have FUN!

Ok before I do any fatal mistakes...I just want to check with you guys (I am new at this :)). I have already backed up my phone, so if I screw anything up, I can go back.
So I downloaded a new ROM on my computer. I will transfer the zip to my phone and install....that's it? just need to install it? Nothing else?
Thanks again, really appreciate your help!

If you're using SPRecovery you'll have to rename it update.zip and place it on the ROOT of you SD card. Make sure there are no other files on the ROOT of you SD card with the same name.
I haven't used SPR in a while, so you may want to check with others to see if this is right; but then while in recovery you select allow update.zip then choose install update.zip and that should do it.

BTW - What ROM did you choose?

Thanks, I will read up on how to install!!
I chose bugless beast - only because so many other people have it. Since I am so new I figured I would try a popular one first then if I don't blow my phone up, I could change later lol.
    Thanks again,
    Kerry

LOL - that's the same thing I did. Once you get the hang of it you'll get hooked! There's SO many out there to choose from!

BTW - do you have ROM Manager? If not I highly recommend it - very easy to backup and keep your ROMs organized. Plus you can install ROMs from some devs that are on there - like bugless for instance :)

    No problem.
I like ROM Manager just for the convenience of having all the ROMs right there at your finger tips!

Have fun and remember every phone is different - finding the right combination (ROM, kernel, theme) make take some time. But it's fun while trying to find it!
