I manually updated my Droid to 2.2 on Tuesday and I've been irritated with the messaging setup since then. I don't like the white background. Is there a way to make it go back to the original black without having to root the phone?

Also... any chance this issue will be fixed with the supposedly new Froyo OTA that's coming? I wouldn't complain but it's hard to just glance at the white and gray and know which messages are read or unread.

    Thanks for any help!

there is a texting app called handcent that is 100% customizable and someone else on the forum explained how to get it to look like the default texting app in another thread on DF just try searching for "handcent to look default or stock" something along those lines should give you what you want

This is from that original post. I kept it. I take no credit.

Skin > Hero Theme > Black

    Conversation Style > Android

Bubble Settings > BG Color Options > SMS Received (55,55,55,255) & SMS Sent (0,0,0,255)

Bubble Settings > Font Color Options > All set to (255,255,255,255)

Bubble Settings > BG Settings > Custom Color (0,0,0,255)

Bubble Settings > Editor Box > Unchecked

Conversation List Settings > Enable Custom > Checked

Conversation List Settings > Text Color Settings > All set to (255,255,255,255) except Divider which is (120,120,120,255)

Conversation List Settings > BG Settings > Customer Color (0,0,0,255)
