Is there a way to bypass the lock screen on the Droid?
Your question begs another. When the lock screen appears do you need to do anything more than just swipe up?
Here's how. Download and install No Lock Screen - Android Apps on Google Play
FWIW, it had a bug that annoyed me, let me get my bearings straight. Will update.

Works fine on my Turbo.

I've used No Lock in the past. Then my company forced encryption on me. Arrgh.
Same here Ollie! I've never used lock screens till my employer implemented 3rd party security software that requires encryption.
I asked because when you go to Settings -> Security & screen lock -> Screen lock -> None
That does not have anything to do with removing the lock screen. It just dictates whether or not you have to input a pattern, pincode, or password before the lockscreen can be bypassed.
Anytime. Try out No Lock. It works very well. The only downfall I had with it was my phone's home button would trigger the screen on sometimes while it was in my pocket. I had since then put on a glass screen protector which counter sunk my home button and resolved the accidental screen wakes.
