Search didn't give me a solution (if there is one) other than reverting back to 2.1. Is this issue something that can/will be fixed in future Roms?

no, no solution yet. it effects all streaming so switching players will not necessarily help

The root of the issue is that Google implemented a new media framework with Froyo (StageFright) and it has issues decoding AAC+ streams.

Issue 9308 - android - eaac+ and aac+ decoding sound quality problems (Android 2.2) - Project Hosting on Google Code

I just tested out the latest Froyo build (FRG01B) and sadly the issue has not been completely resolved yet.

I say completely because it does sound better than previous builds. Still tinny and shallow though :(

Reverting back to ESE81 until this is fixed :)

Slacker didn't work for me. It actually sounded worse than Pandora.

I suspect that DigiK may be referring to the Slacker Premium subscription service which downloads files locally and lets you play from a "cache". I have this service as well and think that the cache files sound better than the stream. That seems to track with the general feeling that the thing that's broken here is the AAC codec as applied to streaming, local files are ok.

No issues with xiialive or radiotime. They sound fine since BB Froyo .1

Also flash radio stations now work great, except you need to leave browser open or it stops.

I do not use pandora or slacker.

To follow up on my initial brief reply:

I initially noticed the Pandora streaming quality problems concurrently with everyone else and did some A/B comparisons with my buddy's droid which was running UD at the time. UD didn't experience these issues. I was at the end of my rope with the horrid audio quality and had heard good things about Slacker Radio, so I uninstalled Pandora prior to installing Slacker.

Even on non-cached stations, I experience no streaming quality issues with Slacker running v0.4. No clue what slacker is doing as far as network/streaming underpinnings with 2.2 versus Pandora, or if something magically fixed itself by uninstalling Pandora; but slacker is definitely streaming full quality.

Crap...I just tested the new leaked FRG01 release, but forgot to try Pandora out. :icon_ nono2: Maybe later this evening...

Hope this anecdote helps in some way. Post back with your own experiences.

I hate the fact that when I do get a song that I like, it stops and then goes right into a new one. It's worse on last.fm. I don't know if a song is going to play all the way through or if it will skip.

I switched the cell network streaming quality in the options on Pandora from "Normal" to "High" and it worked for me.

I always have my quality on high. No matter where I am there isn't any reliability.

Yeah. This changed mine from "AM radio" quality to "Cassette tape" quality. Nowhere near the CD quality that it was before Froyo. Very shallow and tinny. Almost like part of the audio spectrum is being ignored.
