I haven't been able to sign into my Google Talk since installing SS 5.0. I've tried:

    -Clearing Gtalk's data
    -Clearing Davlik cache
-Installing a different version of Gtalk (themed update.zip)

I did not wipe data for the initial install, but I've never had to for this to work. My market works just fine.

Is there something I'm missing? Any tricks?

My Gtalk is working just fine.

I'd start there......after waiting for other people who are way smarter than me to reply to this thread

ps - pay no attention to my sig - it's been SS5.0 for me since its release!

Are you getting the gtalk failure to authenticate message?
Do you have other im apps on phone with gtalk signed in on one of those.
Even with no gtalk, you are still able to access the market, which leads me to believe you have another im app with gtalk signed in.
If that is the case, just use that app, as the major issue that is linked to gtalk authentication/sign in issues, is inability to access the market.
This can only be fixed through a complete fresh install in my experiences.
Answer the above when you can and I may have more info/suggestions.

and icculus you know much more re: coding and such than I could ever hope to.
unless you are a different icculus than the renowned theme guru

I hate to disappoint you & your username, but I am not the famed Icculus = Luna Theme man...although we have "fought" over PM as to who stole that username from the other :)

Oh, I know, and I finally got it to work after wiping and reinstalling + Titanium backup. It's just very odd that it wouldn't work as the only thing that wiping does is format /data and cache, while Talk.apk is in the system folder.

Actually, it never got to the point of telling me that there was an authentication error, it just hung at the sign-in screen.

I have no other IM apps either, just Gtalk. However, you are correct that a full fresh (read:wiped) install fixes the issue. Oy.

5.01 will have a 'fix gtalk' option that works great - will require a reboot afterwards, but that's it

Chevy - Will this require the Email.apk file to be installed? I saw that mentioned in one of the posts related to the potential issues with Google Talk not working correctly. I'm asking as I typically remove this app since I use Touchdown and it doesn't require this app to be installed.
    Thanks in advance!

Do you also have the stock message apk, and neither are frozen.
Also did you have gtalk issue right after install?
Or did it start randomly after you had already been running the ROM?
As in my case, though never a gtalk issue on SS5, if it works after install and a reboot or two, I'd never have an issue.
But if after that I froze or deleted the two stock apks then immediately after or upon reboot it seemed to trigger the gtalk fail. And unfreeze or re install of those apks would not fix what they had seemed to cause.

I did not have the problem unless I restored using rstapps - if I didn't do that - no issues whatsoever - neither Email nor Mms frozen at any time, ever
