I understand there are a few threads similar to this, but those seem to be about ignoring the OTA update. This is a bit different.

I am running FRG22 by Pete, ODEXED. It looks like the zip file I used to update is from August 20th.

I am now getting notices about an OTA update, probably this one:
FRG22D Update for DROID Running through 9/4 | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

I am running flash and stuff already but if there is a 'newer' build, I would like to use it.

So, has it been rooted already? Or is it possible/safe/okay to update, and then to use one of the apps on the market that roots? What is the best way to go about this?

EDIT: I just used these instructions.

Looks like we have similar circumstances.

Cool. I think I got nervous after losing root AND SPRecovery, and decided to go the recovery route, instead of just rooting after the OTA install. I'm a little jealous that you got it to work!

I actually tried one of those apps that do one-click rooting but it didn't work. This seemed like the next best bet. If you've messed with RSD Lite and know how to get at your cache then the whole thing is fairly simple.

I also got the same result as this, where all the apps are intact and everything. I will say that it gave me the Twitter app (that I never use) again, so I made sure to get rid of that :p

Wow, you may need to post your picture at some point. You sound like my twin. ;)
