is it possible to stop getting notifications everytime someone makes a status change

I'm tired of the constant icon at the top of my droid eris saying someone changed their status on facebook......people change their status hourly. is there any way to stop my droid from notifying me of people's status updates?

Log on to Facebook and disable the notifications....

I tried that before I posted the forum. It didn't work I just stopped receiving notifications for the things that are actually important...

Are you using Bloo? If so, you might be able to change notifications from there.
