Do I need to redo the mod everytime I flash a new rom? If I have to revert to stock, re-root, and forever root it, before I update...then lose it when I flash a custom rom, what's the point?

You can lose forever root? I don't think so. Hence the name forever.

Good question as far as when it no longer shows up is it still there. But you only need to flash it (assuming you do.. and I will till sure otherwise) when going back to stock to get upgraded via official path/methods.

It seems it's only going to get more challenging to do that the more upgrades moto does.

Exactly. So since I have to do it after I revert to stock anyway, and can't update ota w/ my th3oryrom, what's the point of adding it now/

If you have stock and do forever root you can update and flash a ROM without losing it
