Is anyone here A+ Certified? Is it worth the money? How did you study? Class? Self-taught?

I'm seriously considering it. I was an IT major back in '03, but dropped out. I like to think I've got a good grasp of IT, but I need a refresher. It's time for a new career, and IT is the future.

There are plenty of books available with practice cds.

I'm not certified, but I am in IT & have an A+ book from class.

I think whether it's worth it or not depends on your area. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to take over IT at the company I've worked for for over 4 years with only an associates degree & some Microsoft certifications.

I have an associates degree in a completely different field. I'm at the bottom at 31 years old, when it comes to IT.

I had an associates of liberal arts right after high school. Went back for computer networks & security systems at like 26-27. I'm 29 now.

I just feel too old to start a new career, but life is too short not to do what you want. I really don't want to go back to school, so I'll probably just stack up on certifications.

That can work just as well. I know I went on several interviews where they was their first question sheet looking at my resume. "Do you plan on getting more certifications?"

No time like the present to get into what you wanna do for the rest of your life!

Try jobskillshare.com they have real world scenarios, how to be get a grasp of the ticketing system, they have the A+ certification on there by Professor Messer and Messer's videos are great for A+. They have a course from beginning to being a specialist in IT, and they show you active directory and some of the stuff you might do on a day to day basis as a help desk since that's probably where you might start with no experience. I hope this helps and good luck!

I've been in IT for ...ugh, 15 years now and have about a dozen certifications. My view on the value of certs is that, for the most part, they can get you the interview but they will not get you the job.

It depends on the job. Anything above an entry Help Desk position typically requires a minimum 2+ years of experience (or equivalent schooling) in the field you're applying for. Certifications certainly help get you the interview, but they won't get you through a thorough questioning of a product or how to do the job.

Experience and knowledge of how to troubleshoot/resolve issue.

Back in the day I had a bunch of certs. I let them expire once I realized they didn't do much.
