Why does my T-bolt say it comes with 8gb internal memory but when I check the internal memory new from the box it says it only has 2.5 gb of available internal storage left? What is taking up 5.5 gb of internal storage?

Almost 70% of Internal Memory is Missing. - HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon) - Android Forums - HTC Community

Enjoy reading. Basically HTC and Verizon marketed 8GB of internal storage but in reality, it's an 8GB chip formatted into 2 4GB slabs for reliability purposes, and then on top of that, there's storage reserved for the OS leaving us with 2.5GB of usable space. Fun huh?

I'd be rich if I sold $500 5TB hard drives that only had 1TB of usable storage. I'm pretty upset about that... however, it sure beats the Droid 1s 200MB of space. Even with all my apps I still have 2.2GB free. So I'm happy but a little sour over the fact that we were sold 8GB. I was looking forward to that.
