Been getting this a lot lately when updating apps. I have plenty of storage, 12 gigs on my SD card and 60 MB on the phone memory.

    What is the deal?

I have had this problem before. A quick reboot and it works just fine.

Rebooting isn't helping me with this issue.
I've had that problem with a number of apps now for months.
I've updated from 4.9 to 4.95 to 4.96 & still getting that issue.

Because your /system memory and your /data memory are different.

stock ss 4.96 when I installed no theme I had 3.xx mb of free memory in /system

What I recommend doing is use root explorer and delete the unused languages from /system/tts/pico_lang only leave US in there *unless you speak another language.

Then move bootanimation from /system/media to /data/chevyno1.

    Reboot..

delete unwanted/unused apps (ie for me is geniewidget, twitter, etc...you can do this with chevy tools as well)

That will free up some space for you.

Your 60 mb is likely your /data space.

Well, for me one specific on that is giving me that error, is Audible.
Prior to the 4.96 I was not able to get the Flash 10.1 update either.
There are a couple others as well, but can't think of them off hand.

According to Android System Info, I have:
    35M Free Internal Memory
    3.8G Free SD Card

The advice I gave will free up space. Try it first. Buy root explorer. More than worth its price. If not...learn adb

The memory u are looking at is not why u are getting the notification. You need to move some things from /system...and tts languages is a good dump.

The apps it is doing it are,

Handcent, Flash player, Setcpu and craigslist updater. I tried rebooting, did not work. Guess I'll uninstall the apps and reinstall them.

No sir. Your storage is divided into /system for system files like framework and system apps. This is different than the / data memory where your market apps go. If your /data/app path is too full you can move some to system....if your system is too full you can move some to data.

Or look into steps to partition your sd card so apps can be moved there

I am getting this same error when I try to install flash player. And yes, I know the difference between data storage and system storage. I have 140 mbs free in data, and 23 mbs free in system. I even followed the above steps to free up space. The interesting thing is I noticed even after I uninstalled flash player from system, it still shows up in my apps list in the app manager, but it is only 58 kbs, and I can't seem to find it in either system or data.

How do you tell if either path is too full?
