    Use the update.zip via SPRecovery

Make sure it is for the exact ROM and version you are using and is in an update.zip format. When you install make sure in SPR you click allow update, then install... (make backups!)

So the rom and theme match, you downloaded the theme, renamed to update.zip, mounted your phone, renamed or removed any existing update.zip file, copied the update.zip (theme) to the root of your SD card, unmount, boot into SPRecovery, make an advanced nandroid backup, allow update, install, install (dec), reboot.

If that is correct, then redownload the theme and try again.

Just a side question to this. I'm not rooted and I don't have a ROM manager, but i downloaded a theme because I liked the icons on it. Is it possible to get access to the icons from the theme pack? Sorry and thanks - im a n00b.

Get a program called 7zip File Manager and it will let you open APK files on your PC. You can find the icons in one of the folders there.
