I tried both of those and the phone acts like it wants to load it put just goes back to normal Hboot screen. The only one it would register was the first one we tried

Factory reset will not fix an issue like this. And rooting might must make it worse. I don't know why this isn't working for you... it should install fine. Take me step by step what you've done and maybe we can pinpoint the error.

Also, are you sure that you copied the zip file into the root of your SD card? Not into a folder but in the actual SD card itself...Because when you install you shouldn't be getting a new "no image" message

Ok, yes the pb31img is not in any folder. It is just named pb31img. when I get to hboot screen it askes if i want to start update and i select yes. it then says

Parsing...[sd zip]
1 bootloader -fail-PU
2 Radio_vz - updating

It get frozen here. On the left side of the screen it has a status bar and it stops about 90% of the way.. I am so lost lol

Yea as long as you can access the hboot menu you should be good... I'm going to ask a newbie question *bracing for impact* why don't you just sbf back to factory? Or from the hboot try to restore?
