IMAP vs. POP3

I am trying to sync my DX default email (currently set up as POP3) with my (3rd party) email server, mainly because I would like to have the messages in my inbox deleted once they are off the email server. I read on the Forum that IMAP can do this, but POP3 cannot.
Could someone please confirm this, or give me some related tips?

Yes imap will sync and pop will not.

I re-set up the native email client with IMAP and it works the way I want it.
