I really want to do alot more with my phone, so what are the steps to get onto the cyanogen mod, or blackdroid mod? I'm not sure if i have to downgrade my firmware to root it, or i can just get to the mods on the verizon 2.1 firmware.

You will need to downgrade back to 2.0.1 to install a custom ROM.

you have to flash the 2.01 sbf which there's a guide for in my signature (the Unroot/Unbrick using sbf guide). then download DMupdater from the Droidmod.org and then install any custom rom you want :)

wait...so I can't install a custom rom on 2.1, even if I did the 2.1 rooted option that's floating around here?

As long as you have sprecovery you can install a custom rom. I did it when I had pete version on ese 81 (which is the same thing I have now minus Pete's name) about a week ago.

You could hang the 'official' update file from Verizon ;) While there are a blue million running around but nobody has bothered to hang the file itself from Verizon
