Juice defender and extended controls work wonders for battery life once you get them set up. Over clocking and under clocking with low voltage and ultra low voltage also help but you have to be rooted to overclock and under clock

We are all new sometime or another so its all good. Extended controls is in the android market. Just search the name in the market

don't stress too much, ur ok. the best way to know ur phone is to explore. def read up on the topic ur asking and take a step at a time. I use juice defender and im a moderate user. phone has been unplugged since 1:30 am and still at 60%. def check phone settings as u did and others mentioned. juice defender is custom to ur needs of course and may work for me but not you. just depends. like they mentioned here, check the market. thousands of apps out there.
so don't sweat it, its a learning curve for ALL. have fun! *doing the hula for ya* Lol
