Googles phones are "nexus" models...even the LG nexus...
Well samsung has a model that is nexus..so does google..
U can buy unlocked phones by Google, because google said they were tired of carrier companies taking to long to update phones..
So if u have a google phone it updates way before a VZ phone would of the same model.

(All this is my understanding from what iv been told, so i could be wrong))

But is there a difference in a VZ samsung nexus vs Google's samsung nexus or other models they have?

Google doesn't make any phones, they have companies submit possible specs and they then choose which company to produce the "next" Nexus phone.

Verizon has always been a pain in the butt, never carried any of the Nexus line (most Nexus have been GSM devices anyway). Verizon wanted one so Samsung made the typical GSM Nexus (Galaxy Nexus) line that Google provides on the Play Store. They also made a CDMA/LTE version for Verizon (which is the only one you can use on Verizon).

Verizon is still a butt when it comes to this phone and getting updates....though you can use custom ROMs on it to get the latest update. Updates still have to be approved by Verizon even though it's a Nexus phone.

The primary difference to be aware of is that to use a phone on Verizon it has to be a Verizon phone. So only a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus will work on Verizon's service. All the other Samsung Galaxy Nexus phones/devices will not work.

It's the network basically.

Verizon 3G network uses CDMA

AT&T 3G and HSPA uses GSM

They are not compatible. Most of the outside world (away from the US) use GSM (a few use CDMA though).
