But before i take that step i will need to ask a few questions.
    1. Can rooted phones still download from the market?
    2. how will rooting affect official updates?
    3. when rooted is the phone open to be used on other services than verizion?

those are the major 3. and i guess thats puts me in the Now generation since i'm not using the search. But i did cause there would be a lot more questions if i haven't... heh.

    1. Yes
    2. Nothing will change. If you update, you'll lose root
    3. Maybe, but that's not it's primary purpose, so I dont think anyone has tried.

    1.yes
    2. Most likely you will receive them but if you have certain recovery images they will block you from installing them and you will have to unroot and then install them
3.not really sure what you mean but if you are asking whether not you can use say at&t then idk and if you can it would be very difficult.

Go for it! I will make a suggestion to u. I think that Bugless Beast 1.0 is by far the fastest and most stable ROM! I installed the 1ghz version via ROM manager today and don't think I'll be doing any more experimenting for awhile :)

Cyanomod 5.0.6.2 was slow and ultimate droid New Era was buggy. BB is flawless!

EDIT: make sure u do a nandroid backup before installing any ROM! Good Luck!!!

I also think that BB v1.0 is a great rom but keep in mind that many people (including myself) have had issues with setCPU and battery life on that rom. As for UD New Era being buggy im not really sure what you mean ive been using it for a while and i think it is great!

Pete has said SetCPU is unnecessary in his ROM, and I've found him to be correct.
